We collaborated closely with the client to develop an IoT app tailored to the headband. Our approach included the below
1. Technical Integration
- TWS (True Wireless Stereo) earbuds were also part of the ecosystem, enhancing the user experience.
- We meticulously integrated the headband’s biosensors with the app, ensuring seamless data transfer.Data Processing - we calculated the following vitals data using left and right channel brain waves and posterior auricular vein using different electrodes
- PPG (Photoplethysmography) - It is a simple optical technique used to detect volumetric changes in blood in peripheral circulation.
- EEG (electroencephalogram) - It is a simple test that measures electrical activity in the brain.
- HRV (Heart rate variability) - It is the physiological phenomenon of variation in the time interval between heartbeats. It is measured by the variation in the beat-to-beat interval.
- BPM (Beats Per Minute) - It is a simple measurement of heart rate per minute.
- RR Intervals - Heart Rate, Arterial Blood Pressure, and Their Variability. RR interval, the time elapsed between two successive R-waves of the QRS signal on the electrocardiogram (and its reciprocal, the HR) is a function of intrinsic properties of the sinus node as well as autonomic influences.
- SDNN - It is the standard deviation of the IBI intervals measured in ms, NN here means "normal" beats, i.e. removing abnormal or false beats. When assessed over a 24-hour period, SDNN is the clinical "gold standard" in assessing cardiovascular health and in particular, morbidity and risk of cardiac events.
- The total length of single PPG data - 23byte/Sec
- The total length of single EEG data - 4352byte/Sec
- Protocol used - OpenEEG P2 Protocol (P2 uses 17 data bytes to transmit 6 channels of EEG data)
How is this data helpful to us?
Using the above data, we calculated these vital factors of the human body - smCog, smAtt, smMood, smRT, smRA, smRB, smRG, smRFA, smRSA, smRLB, smRMB, smRHB, smACT, smStr, smShortStr, smLongStr, smANS, smSDNN, smCond, smRJFHF.
- Attention Index(Scale Range 0 to 100) - This scale defines a person's attention to environmental changes at that moment. The higher the index, the higher the attention rate of that person.
- Relaxation Index(Scale Range 0 to 100) - This scale shows how much their brain is relaxed in a specific situation. The higher the index, the higher the relaxation rate of that person.
- Brain Activity Index(Scale Range 0 to 100) - This index shows a person's brain electrical activity in a certain situation. The higher the index, the higher brain activity.
- Stress Index(Scale Range 0 to 100) - This index show the level of stress that a person is feeling in a specific situation. The higher the index, the higher level of stress on a person's brain depending on the surrounding environmental changes.
- Mood Index(Scale Range 0 to 100) - This index shows a person's current mood depending on the changes in his surroundings. A higher index shows a happier mood and a lower index shows a sad and depressing mood.
- Physical Condition Index(Scale Range 0 to 100) - This index shows the functional abilities of a human heart in certain environmental situations. A higher index shows a stable heart condition at a specific moment.
- Short Terms Stress Index(Scale Range 0 to 100) - This index shows acute stress, which is a short-term stress that comes and goes quickly. It can be positive or negative. It's the feeling you get when you're riding on a roller coaster. A higher index shows a more stressful situation and a lower index shows a calm relaxed situation.
2. Cultural Adaptation & User Engagement
- Initially focused on Korean users, we translated Korean script documents and adapted musical elements for a global audience.
- Cultural sensitivity played a crucial role in making the app accessible worldwide.
- We gamified the app within a storytelling framework, striking a balance between enjoyment and effective data collection.
- Engaging games complemented meditation sessions, maximizing motivation and focus.
3. Gamification and Global Reach
- Stories were culturally adapted and translated while preserving their essence.
- Engaging game mechanics transcended language barriers, making the app universally appealing.
